Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy

 Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy in Fort Worth, TX

If you’re struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, or a sense of emotional “stuckness,” Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) may offer a powerful path forward. At my Fort Worth private practice, I offer KAP to individuals seeking new approaches when traditional therapy or medication hasn’t been enough.

This evidence-based treatment combines the mind-opening effects of ketamine with the safety and depth of professional psychotherapy—helping you access parts of yourself that conventional talk therapy might not reach.

What Is Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy?

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is a unique therapeutic approach that integrates the psychedelic properties of ketamine into a guided, therapeutic setting. Unlike stand-alone ketamine infusions or medication management, KAP includes preparation, support during the ketamine session, and post-session integration therapy — which helps you get the most from Ketamine.

Clients often describe ketamine dosing sessions as dreamlike, introspective, and deeply emotional. These experiences—when processed with the help of a trained therapist—can lead to significant breakthroughs and long-term healing.

Who Is a Good Candidate for KAP?

KAP is especially helpful for individuals experiencing:

  • Treatment-resistant depression or anxiety

  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

  • Chronic emotional pain or grief

  • Existential distress

  • A desire for deeper psychological growth

Before beginning, we conduct a comprehensive assessment and coordinate with a licensed medical provider to ensure this treatment is appropriate and safe for you.

What to Expect from Ketamine-Assisted Therapy

The KAP process includes three distinct phases:

1. Preparation Sessions

We begin with some talk therapy sessions to establish trust, clarify goals, and prepare for the ketamine experience. We’ll explore whether infusions (at a clinic) or sublingual Ketamine is better for you. You'll also complete a medical screening with a licensed prescriber.

2. Ketamine Sessions

Ketamine is administered (typically via lozenge or intramuscular injection) in a calm, supportive setting. I remain present throughout your first session to guide, ground, and support your experience. Ketamine dosing sessions typically last 60–90 minutes.

3. Integration Therapy

In the days following your medicine session, we meet again to explore your insights, process emotions, and help you incorporate what you've discovered into daily life. This is where lasting change often takes root.

Most clients engage in a series of about 6 KAP sessions, though this varies depending on individual needs.

Is Ketamine Therapy Safe?

Ketamine has been safely used for decades in medical settings and, more recently, in mental health care. In a KAP setting, safety is our highest priority. I partner with licensed prescribers who handle medical clearance and dosing, ensuring your physical health is carefully monitored throughout the process.

Side effects are typically mild and short-lived, including nausea, dizziness, or dissociation. You’ll be supported before, during, and after the session with trauma-informed care.

Frequently Asked Questions about KAP

Is ketamine therapy legal in Texas?
Yes. Ketamine is an FDA-approved medication and may be legally used off-label to treat depression and other mental health conditions under the supervision of licensed medical professionals.

What is the difference between KAP and ketamine by itself?
Infusions typically involve receiving ketamine without therapy. KAP combines the medicine with guided psychotherapy, which helps you make sense of the experience and turn insights into lasting change.

How many ketamine sessions will I need?
Most clients begin with 4–6 sessions, but the number can vary. We’ll personalize your treatment plan based on your goals and progress.

Can I do KAP if I’m already in therapy?
Yes. I can work collaboratively with your existing therapist or function as your primary KAP provider throughout the process.
